It happens every four years. The eyes of the world are focused on Iowa and its Caucus as U.S. presidential hopefuls attempt to lure voters in the nation's first step toward electing a new leader. Much of the activity is in the state capital of Des Moines, and for good reason. This city's rich history, outdoor activities, great restaurants, and vibrant nightlife make it an attractive destination not only for politicians every four years, but also for vacationers and business travelers throughout every year. Among the popular sites in this area is the National Balloon Museum, located about 12 miles south of the capital city in Indianola. Des Moines' renowned architecture can be appreciated up close with an Architectural Walking Tour that reveals both historical and modern styles that have influenced this city. For a look at Iowans who have helped shape Des Moines and the state, visit the Iowa Hall of Pride. Families will want to spend a day at the Adventureland Amusement Park, home to more than 100 rides, shows and attractions. The city's Blank Park Zoo is also a favorite stop. For much of the year you are likely to find a great festival to attend in the area. These include the Asian Heritage Festival, Jewish Food Fair, Winefest Des Moines, Iowa State Fair, and Wells Fargo World Food Festival. And year-round, the downtown area features a wide variety of entertainment options, including arcades and eateries.

They have this piano guy that plays on certain days. Would definitely recommend going when he is there. Creates a wonderful ambience.

Baratta's has amazing food, great service and the people that work there are so nice and really cater to your needs. I recommend this place to anyone that likes Italian food!
The best salad dressing in Des Moines. Beyond that the cavatelli is good, the Jamaican jerk sandwich is really good and it's some of the best pizza you'll find anywhere. It's worth a visit.
Best fajitas in the world. Everything here is good and reasonably priced. The staff is great-our favorite Mexican place in the Des Moines area.
